Project Life. I'm hooked.

for my daily picture I've been using the photoaday on instagram {that everyone and their brother is doing}

I am Digi scrapping my pages {even though I am obsessed with Smash books and all of their awesomeness}

here are my 1st three pages. I'm averaging 3 days on a page but I suppose if I cut out on my randomness I could probably fit a whole week on one page.

I can't wait to get them printed into a book :)

a few things I forgot to blog about in December

Ugly Christmas Sweaters. Mine had a wreath and a cat and puffy paint. I wore it home on Christmas day and got absolutely no reaction from my mom and dad. I guess they're used to me dressing a little "quirky".

Ford Escapes don't recognize me as a person in the front seat. it's weird. maybe i should get a car seat...

scout is extra adorable with her cindy lou who / i love Christmas headband on.

my favorite man in the whole world turned 60 the day after Christmas.

so of course I woke him up with cinnamin rolls and my horrible singing.

I think that Sunday dinners with the family are perfect way to start your week. (yes I think Sunday in the 1st day of the week, is that weird?). Spending the day with my family makes Monday seem less daunting. My sister was home from Arizona over the weekend and my mom made baked steak {and mashed potatoes, noodles, cole slaw, green beans} Then my dad, who loathes getting his picture taken, decided he wanted a family photo. Watch out, hell might freeze over later this week...

I got picked to be on Amy Jaz's creative team this weekend, (super excited about that!)

Sometimes life moves so fast we forget to stop and breathe and appreciate the natural beauty around us.

This weekend I remembered how amazingly gorgeous my mom and dads farm is. I am a lucky girl.

I spent Saturday morning hanging out with my favorites.

We went hedge apple hunting and drank chocolate milk.

I came out on the porch and found Annie sharing her milk with her brother.

today is Veterans Day.

I am Proud of both of my Grandpa's for fighting in WWII.

Yesterday was my Mammie's 80th birthday.

I sent her 29 red roses and gerber daisies.

1 for every year of MY life.

1 for every year I have had the world's greatest Grandma.

She still doesn't think of herself as an "old person".

I hope I'm like that in 50 or 60 years.

that was my Dad's Dad's Ford decorated for the 4th of July parade

on our town square in 1966. They drove it in the parade for the K. of P. Lodge (Knights of Pythias). My Dad recounted the whole day to me last night on the phone. He remembers everything, even that he had a toothache that day. He was 14. His Dad died 6 short years later in 1972. I'm glad he has this vivid memory of a happy day spent with his dad.

this weekend I went home and had some family time. I miss home, I wish I could be there all the time. My cousins celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows followed by a party complete with cornhole, a bounce house, a camo cake and amazing food cooked by my momma.

I'm not a fan of fondant but this cake was surprisingly delicious.

Saturday, November 5th would have been my Pappy's birthday so we all tried to cheer my Mammie up.

back in 2nd grade, I had to get glasses.

they were not awesome.

they were blue and supposed to be cute, but not so cute with my red hair.

I used to get in fights on the playground hoping my glasses would get broken in the scuffle.

I got over it. I love my glasses now.

This season there are glasses in every catalog, lookbook, fall campaign.

a few things that have been adding a little extra happy to my week

my mom bought me a bag of caramel apple sugar babies. have you tried them? they're awesomeness will amaze you.

I made rice krispie treats with extra marshmallow fluff and then added a bag of lucky charms marshmallows (from amish country). They were addicting. And sadly all gone.

I'm 1.5 episodes in to Hart of Dixie. Between Jason Street, Burt Reynolds the alligator, boxes of wine, and Zoe's one liners I think I'm madly in love with this show. It's mildly corny but I like Rachel Bilson's wardrobe and George is cute. Too bad he's marrying Lemon Meringue. My favorite line so far: There it is. Rock Bottom. I just played Dixie with my butt. This never happened, you hear me?" (while she is making out with the gate keeper Wade and chugging a box of wine on the side of the road). Bonus: the Country music soundtrack.

Boo might be the worlds 2nd cutest dog (after Scoutie Lou of course)

I screwed up a wedding linen order for my mom. So now we have 200 white chair covers when we need ivory. Ouch to that $300.00 mistake.

You know why I love being from a small town?

Accountability

Everyone knows your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and probably share a few cousins with you.

You can't do ANYthing without your mom finding out. No changing into slutty clothes after you get somewhere, no smoking cigarettes on your way to school (I saw a high school kid doing this on my way to work today.)

Even if someone doesn't know your name, they know your face. I still hear "you must be Donnie's daughter, because you're put'near the spitting image of him.". And as much as no little girl wants to hear that she looks like her bearded dad, I knew if I did something wrong my dad would inevitably find out. He always told me before I left the house to Remember my last name. How could I forget, walking around with that tell tale inherited face and red hair he passed on to me?

You can't make up excuses about where you were because the whole town knows your car, and where you live. They know there wasn't a wreck on your way to work because there are only 2 main roads. If you're "sick" you can't leave the house or the clerk at the gas station will tell her uncle who will tell his sister in law and your boss will most likely know you were playing hookie.

It may seem bothersome to some people but I love that the whole county is intricately intertwined through out the decades. I love that my mom finds out I'm home to visit before I get there because someone saw my car at the gas station. I love that when we had my Grandpa's funeral someone made us breakfast every morning and dropped it off on the kitchen table whether we were awake or not. I love that so many people came to share funny stories with us about Pappy (i.e. him picking them up by their belt loops and shirt collar and throwing them out of his bar.) I really love that people knew him for 80 years and they remembered the strong, healthy, I-will-kick-you-ass, Pappy, more than the stroke victim Pappy. I love that they think of him as the Pap that back in the day would load all the neighborhood kids up in the back of his pick up and take them to football games.

Accountability. I think its an important virtue we all need to have. And I am blessed that I grew up where I did and how I did.

Thank you Mom and Dad for making me be accountable. In life, in school, at church, to old ladies at the grocery store; just in general.

Do you know how hard it is to find a pair of gold sequin (booty) shorts? I didn't either until I needed a pair for my Halloween costume.

I found this handmade dance costume at goodwill for 99 cents

but I need shorts (& tights) to wear with it (i AM a lady after all)

I'm Still trying to think up my superhero name and figure out how i'm going to go the whole Halloween party without going to the bathroom. I'm pretty sure with this get up its impossible to pee without disrobing every time.

so if anyone knows of a reputable place that sells glitterfied hotpants let me know.

funeral boots

My Pappy passed away late Monday evening (October 3rd) in a ball of fury, and on his own time, just like everything else he did in his life. It was a blessing we had been praying for, him to be able to leave us, and not be in pain anymore. I am thankful I was fortunate enough to be there for those last sweet moments, counting his breaths and holding his hand. I am so proud of my Grandma that night in the hospital. She was strong, and brave, and dealt far better than I would have leaving the man that had been by my side since I was 16 {they were married 62 years}. She told me yesterday she can't bear to sleep in their room because she wakes up thinking he is calling for her. I always romanticized him & my Mammie to be each others great loves and I really think they were. I like to imagine their fates were sealed together the moment they met during that square dance at the corner grill in Malaga.

My Grandpa's favorite color was red. Mammie's is blue, but everything he ever bought her was red, and she wore it even though she thought it clashed with her fair skin. To honor him, we all wore a bit of red to the funeral home for calling hours on Thursday. Mammie insisted I wear my red cowboy boots because Pappy would've chuckled at the notion. Over this past week, I remembered why I love being from a small town. I appreciate every antidote and memory that was shared with us about Pap. His rough and tumble days of owning bars, and how he always "traveled with the Lord" {Lord Calvert}. I grew up on Mammie and Pappy's farm so I was lucky enough to have him be a constant in my everyday life. He was Colby cheese and trail bologna waiting on us after school, and he was the best part of Sundays, taking us out to breakfast after Mass. He was a spanking when I got a C on my report card, and he was the bumpiest back road, flying over the railroad tracks. He was whiskey slush on Thanksgiving, putting in hay on Saturdays, and the sports section. He was a family vacation in a RV, and he was fried bologna sandwiches. Pappy was the polka and every Ronnie Milsap song I've ever heard.

one of the hardest things I've ever had to do

one of the hardest things I've ever had to do is to watch my Grandpa, my Pappy, the strongest man I've ever known fade away after his stroke 9 years ago. His mind has never failed, not even now, after we've spent the last week in the hospital watching his lungs fill up with fluid, and it getting harder and harder for him to breathe. The doctors said he was going to die last Tuesday, and every day after that. But he is stubborn and still fighting his losing battle. I'm not ready to be without him but I pray that he has the strength to let go and trust that we can take care of his "Normie" (my Grandma). He still wakes up and reaches for her when she walks into his room. Hearing her say goodbye to her husband of 62 years was the saddest conversation I have ever witnessed. Watching my brothers face while he watches his best friend, his Pappy, drown in front of us is a scene I will never get out of my mind. So if you believe in it please say a prayer that my Pappy can stop struggling, that he can go home to be with the Lord, and that we are all strong enough to let him go.

when I was home last weekend I was raiding my Momma's craft desk (full of glitter puffy paint, and spinning racks of scissors) and I found the sweetest little jar of green stars. Remember the kind of stars you earned on progress charts in elementary school?

yep, she even labeled them.

I knew I got my ocd from somewhere.

and I am so happy I finally learned how to use my new camera because it takes the best pictures.

I love not having to edit everything!

My Mammie is the best Grandma ever.

she takes her G-ma job very seriously.

making homemade noodles, strawberry jam (I've never eaten store bought-en jam and I blame her for my snobbiness towards smuckers). Her vegetable soup is magic and can fix any cold.

She can crochet one hell of an afghan and I've always had a

homemade quilt on my bed instead of a comforter.

she usually has some fun little present for me when I stop over: a kentucky derby glass from 1982, or a pillowcase her mom made out of a feedsack for her when she was little.

I love her huge heart and how she can still cuss like a truck driver if the situation calls for it.

I get my dog craziness from her (she lets 100 lb Ginger Rogers sit on her lap like she's a toy poodle)

she still hand rolls and hand cuts her noodles.

and there are rules. you can't make noodles on sundays or a day when it rains.

Her and my Pappy have possibly the coolest living room ever.

My pap built it out of materials he got from tearing down an old mason lodge.

(raw wood and sandstone). It's huge.

and they have a whole wall full of their old whiskey bottle collection.

side note: they used to own bars-- they're not alcoholics.

I am lucky to have such amazing Grandparents.

They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last Saturday.

They're kind of awesome....

And this week I have strep throat which is no fun for anyone.

Except for Scout because she got to lay around with me all day.

so yesterday I went to the worlds longest doctor's visit and got an antibiotic

(why do they call it a rapid strep test? )

then I went and bought myself some get well soon donuts

and a gallon of lemon berry squeeze

Today I accidentally ate a whole bag of candy corn for breakfast.

I'm pretty sure I deserved it though.

The boyf and I have parted ways after 4 years

they haven't met yet. we need to work on making them love each other.

but on a brighter note I have the most amazing friends in the world

I have been a bad blogger lately,

I made cute toadstool cupcakes that were supposed to be red

but it's really hard to make red icing without using a whole thing of food coloring

(and making the icing all bitter) so they were pink. And yummy. And funfetti.

I won the perfect gift for my Mammie from Aesthetic Outburst

and she sent me the cutest little cow as a bonus.

I bought some vintage matchbooks for a wedding favor

(not mine)

and stared at this balloon out the window all day at work on Thursday.

I was really watching for Tornadoes but the balloon was way better.

I love Jeni's Ice Cream

I definitely get my ocd from my dad.

Last time I was home I took a few pictures of his shop in the bottom of the barn.

I'm trying to convince him to turn this old tractor seat into a wall sconce for me.

that homemade wood frame is my favorite

Its the cleanest old barn you have ever seen.
I swear he sweeps the floors more than most people do in their houses.

Have you watched Coal on Spike yet?

Since dad is a coal miner I was afraid to watch it at 1st but now I love it.

since I'm convinced my dog is cutest thing since Uncle Jesse singing the Teddy Bear song

I think wedding photos incorporating your dog are sweet.

(even though I know Scout wouldn't be invited to my wedding-

she would be too excited and pee on everyone, eat the cake,

and give the guests bruises from her crazy tail.)

yep Bingo. that's what we do for excitement in the country.

but we took Annie, and she might be the best 2-year old bingo player ever.

with the best hair.

Sunday we went to my brother and sister-in-law's farm

and spent all day in the sheep barn picking out show lambs.

I was pretty much covered in lamb crud so i didn't take any pictures.

They have the sweetest goat with 3 babies

and they were playing king of the mountain.

it looked a lot like this.

the rest of the weekend was pretty calm

raggedy anne got her dress washed.

(andy is a pimp)

my Aunt Opal made me these dolls when I was little

scout played.

she has started monster trucking me in the

mornings when she's hungry or needs to go out.

it's a good thing i'm a morning person.

and then she slept

1. kraft homestyle mac and cheese is actually good!

I added extra shredded cheese and I was pretty impressed

with the yumminess.

2. i wore my red cowboy boots to the jason aldean concert this weekend

love him.
